In honor of local shellfishermen and women, not only has the Cape Cod Maritime Museum curated a fascinating, informative new exhibit entitled Shellfishing Cape Cod, but the museum has also curated a unique lineup of events to celebrate the exhibit’s opening. “A lot of our visitors from off-Cape don’t know how shellfish grow and live, or even what they look like, and I think it’s important to teach people about our ecosystems and about the industry,” said Museum Curator Don Stucke. Saturday, February 15, 10:00 am-4:00 pm – FREE admission all day Bring your family to see Shellfishing Cape Cod, where you’ll learn about aquaculture farming, shellfish grants, oyster upweller projects and much more. From 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, enjoy a family shellfish-inspired craft workshop. Light snacks and a free gift for children 12 and under. Sunday, February 16, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm – The Shellfish Bash n’ Hash! Members $10.00 Non-members $15.00 1:00 pm – Meet and mingle with local shellfishing experts and enjoy light refreshments including shellfish-inspired fare. 2:00-4:00 pm – Shellfish: A Panel Discussion The museum has lined up a panel of experts from a variety of local shellfish-related organizations to help shed light on the importance of shellfish and aquaculture to the Cape Cod ecosystem and its Blue Economy. Topics will range from growing to overall ecology and everything in between! Q & A encouraged! The all-star line-up of panelists includes: - Abigail Archer, Marine Educator at the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension - Zenas “Zee” Crocker, Executive Director, Barnstable Clean Water Coalition (BCWC) - Tom Marcotti, Shellfish Biologist, Town of Barnstable Shellfish Department - Rick Sawyer, President of Aquatic Research Corporation Hatchery (ARC) in Dennis
